At Serendipity Media we shoot RAW files as we see it as an important part of producing a quality wedding photography experience on a number of levels.

So What is a RAW file.

Raw files are a file format containing are the un-manipulated data from the sensor from a digital camera.

RAW files  allows a huge latitude to adjust the colors and tones of an images for an artistic presentation or to just make it right.

What is a jpeg file.

A jpeg file is the RAW information  manipulated in terms of color, tone, sharpness…… to what the camera thinks is correct and then compressed. Images from these files tend to degrade substantially when adjusted – especially  their color but they are smaller.

Why use RAW files for weddings instead of the common jpeg format.

1 It only happens once. Reason enough in my opinion.

2 It is all about skin tones which RAW files produce soooooo much better!!!!

3 A happier day. Where other jpeg photographers will have to stress about the color of the light or difficulty of exposure or contrast of a situation or changing light as the cloud move – we just smile and shoot and correct it latter.

4 Get the color you want. Raw files allow better and more controls over color – being the color of the brides maids dresses or the skin color.

5 Shoot more to get more of the right moments. All of this leaves more energy for emotions.

Most wedding Photographers in Melbourne from what we can gather do not use raw files in their production process or if they do they are not converting out their final album prints from them but the presentation jpeg file they made for viewing.
